They sell themselves as lovers of poker and have a PR machine that tells that story, but then they over charge the poker player and seem to offer very few benefits except a big shiny room. Here, in the home of poker, there seems to be no overlay in sight, so very little (if anything) to justify the 100% rake increase. Some of those same regional casinos even offer small overlays in their daily tournaments. Here, for my 10%, I also get charged 2 quid for a single mug of tea.

A least one in Wales used to offer free food to cash players. In most of the smaller, crappier regional casinos the rake is 5%, and they GIVE you free warm and soft drinks. Technically, the room is well equipped and seems relatively well run.īut, a 50+10 buy in is a rake on the high side and a 10% cash table rake is simply indefensible. (A sad downside to the British lack of tipping culture and the relatively poor pay, I suspect) The dealers are mostly good, if often quite rude to the players. On the positive, lots of tables and players. No wonder this place was quiet / waiting list for everything they need to gut the place and start again in my eyes they ruined a nice break away for me personally.Ĭlaims to be home of poker, but I feel like I was mugged. In conclusion don't trust a word these guys say, and don't be an outsider. Also they stated that they cannot accept card payments for poker so are all cash only for entries, they stated that this is for legal reasons / responsible gambling so have installed multiple cash machines to get round this.ver unethical for there obligation to responsible gambling in my eyes. Don't get me wrong the establishment is lovely however the advertisements are false and the staff will physically kick you out should you be winning at the cash tables and are not a local. I obviously left politely however this is a waring to anyone who thinks they can play a guaranteed tournament and have a good time. Instead of arguing with these narrow minded staff I continued my game feeling a bit sorry for the nice chap only to have a member of staff remove me from the casino saying they need no reason and I'd had too much to drink. I made the most of a bad situation and played some 1-1 cash and after a few hours of harmless banter offending no one saw the older gentlemen sat next to me ejected from the casino for little to no reason when he went to get a drink from the bar. Upon arrival was told there is only 5 entrants so the tournament won't be going ahead, these rogue's won't overlay to give out the advertised prizes.

It's the spring series so though I would enter the 5 places guaranteed HR satellite for the following day. I had heard good things about this establishment so thought I would give it a try and travelled down by train and got a hotel close to see what "the home of UK poker" had to offer. Fellow poker players, please don't trust the poker schedule or advertisements that these rogue's give out.
